I’ve been seeing the viral Smash Burger Tacos everywhere and had to take a swing at them! SO I decided to make a healthier version—The Turkey Smash Burger Tacos! My favorite thing is being able to see a recipe that may not be as healthy, and find a way to make a healthy version. It’s so important to look forward to and enjoy the things you eat. Something I’ve learned is that healthy eating doesn’t have to be a compromise on taste or flavor. It’s so fun and satisfying turning these kind of “indulgent” foods into healthy meals I can enjoy on the daily!
I used ground turkey, almond tortillas, a homemade guacamole recipe (that is to die for), tomatoes, a little bit of cheese, and my homemade avocado mayo Chipotle Ranch…it can’t get much better than that!
After making these, I approve of this viral TikTok trend! Although this healthy version tops the original in my opinion. These were a fun and extremely simple dinner to whip up on a weeknight. So if you’re in the mood to smash some Turkey Smash Burger Tacos—keep reading!!

Turkey Smash Burger Tacos Step-By-Step
A burger AND a taco—I’m liking this combo! Let’s make it!
Start with the Toppings
This recipe is very straightforward. Start by preparing all of the toppings.
The guac is where we’ll begin! In a medium bowl add the avocado and mash it well with a fork. I like my guacamole to have larger chunks, but if you prefer it creamy, mash it to the consistency you desire. Chop the onion, and cilantro. Now add the chopped onion, cilantro, garlic, lime juice, and salt to the mashed avocado & stir until it’s well combined.
Cut the cherry tomatoes in half and set aside. You can use any type of tomato for this recipe, I just love the flavor of cherry tomatoes.
Make the Chipotle Ranch! In a small bowl combine the avocado mayo, greek yogurt, lime, garlic, paprika, salt & pepper. It’s so good.
Frying It Up!
Put the pound of ground turkey in a bowl, and add about 1/2 teaspoon of salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Mix until all of the spices are well combined in the turkey. If you’d like to add more spices, feel free. Next, make the ground turkey into 4 burger patties. Do this by dividing the meat into 4 equal parts. Roll the meat into balls then press them flat between your palms.
Heat a pan over the stove on medium heat & allow it to get hot for about a minute. Add a drizzle of olive oil to the pan for cooking. If you’re in need of new pans, I use the All-Clad Nonstick pans and they’re my favorite!
Add the patty to the pan and lay a tortilla over the patty. Smash the patty & tortilla with either the spatula or your hand until it is completely smashed flat. If you use your hand, be careful not to burn your hand on the pan.
Adding the Cheese
Let the patty cook about 5 minutes, or until it has a nice golden brown crisp. You will then flip the tortilla & patty so the tortilla can cook. The patty will now be facing up. Next, place a slice of cheese on the patty, and cover with a lid. Keep the lid on until the cheese is melted. This should take 1-2 minutes, but check back occasionally so the tortilla doesn’t burn.
I like the cheese on my smash burger taco to be crispy. To do this I will flip the patty & tortilla one more time, so the cheese side is flat on the pan. This allows the cheese to crisp up. It should be crispy enough after about a minute—you will be able to tell when it turns golden brown. It’s an optional step but makes a tasty difference in my opinion!
Repeat these steps for each of the Turkey Smash Burger Tacos.
To serve, add the guacamole tomato, and a drizzle of the Chipotle Ranch over top! I like to finish with a squeeze of fresh lime as well.
Enjoy!

Turkey Smash Burger Tacos—Alternatives
I made these Turkey Burger Smash Tacos with all of the ingredient I love, but there’s so much room to play with ingredients and make your Smash Taco your own!
The Tortillas: I used Almond Flour Tortillas for my tacos. This recipe would be wonderful with corn, regular flour, cassava flour, or any type of tortilla/wrap you prefer.
The Cheese: I like to use sharp white cheddar for this recipe. If you prefer a different cheese—you can’t go wrong! Sometimes I use feta cheese and it’s delicious. You could even use vegan cheese!
The Meat: Another ingredient that’s totally up to you! If you prefer ground chicken, beef, or pork over ground turkey—use that!
The Veggies: Personally, I love guac & tomato for these Smash Burger Tacos. But if that’s not your thing, top it with your favorites!
I hope this helps you tailor this recipe to your liking!
